🐸CSA Week Frog, I mean 8 🐸Market! 🐸

City Beet Reporting Vol.1 No.12

We. Saw. A. Frog!

Hey there City Beetniks,

The big news of the week is that we saw a tree frog hanging out in our veggies yesterday! Seeing frogs is one of my most joyful things. I heard at some point that touching them is bad for them, so I restrain myself from doing that now, but seeing them is pretty great all the same. Besides that, I'm here to tell you we'll be at the Federal Store at 10th and Quebec from 4:00 to 6:30 pm for CSA (veggie and flower) pickup and our weekly market tomorrow. See you there!

We'll still be wearing masks at pickup, and we hope you'll join us in maintaining physical distancing and being careful to keep our community safe and healthy.

CS8:

  • Kale or Swiss Chard
  • 1 lb of Beans or 1 lb-ish of cucumber
  • Lettuce Mix (1/3 of a pound)
  • 1 lb of zucchini
  • Carrots, one bunch
  • Bok Choy, 1 lb
  • 1.5 lbs of potatoes!
  • Beets (they're back!) or turnips (they're also back!)
  • 2 bulbs fresh garlic
The frog was seen in the bean, kale, and chard beds, so those items are extra special this week.

What's at the market table?

We'll have lots for sale again tomorrow alongside our CSA pickup: beans, lettuce mix, zucchini, a few zucchini flowers, and more! 4:00 to 6:30 at 10th and Quebec.

In other farm news...

  • We harvested all the garlic on Friday, and it's currently curing in our greenhouse-- which we converted to a 'shade house' by draping tarps over the top. We've got fresh garlic this week, and we'll have cured bulbs for you in a couple more weeks.

  • We had even more ripe tomatoes this week! Still not enough to share with you, sadly, and I know I keep saying they'll be ready soon, but I really do mean it! Soon!

  • The flower CSA is going strong and it's been wonderful to harvest them and make bouquets so far. We're having a pretty icky aphid situation on some of our amaranthus (love lies bleeding) but don't worry-- It's pretty localized and I think we're getting it under control! Sunflowers should be open in the next couple weeks, and we're seeing new colours of yarrow all the time. A few bouquets will have statice in them this week too, which is a first of the season!

  • The one frog pic where it's on the chard stem is blurry, I know, but I really love it otherwise so I'm showing it to everyone anyway.
See you tomorrow,

Liana and Duncan
